Today we’re introducing Allison Kelley, the creative mind behind But What Should I Wear, a fashion and lifestyle blog! We’ve all been there – whether you are heading to work or a dinner with your friends we’ve all looked into our closets and thought the famous question, “but, what should I wear?” Allison, a San Diego native, has a love for style and created her blog to help us all find the answer to one of the hardest fashion questions. Can you tell us a bit about you and your background? My name is Allison and I like to call myself the “creative mind” behind But What Should I Wear, a life and style blog based in Southern California that I started in September 2016. When I am not at my full-time job as a marketing manager, I spend the majority of my time in Los Angeles and San Diego working on creative collaborations for my blog. What keeps me creative and motivated day in and day out is taking time for myself to unwind, reading a good book, and listening to vinyls with the two loves of my life my boyfriend and my dog.
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself? Self-starter, passionate, creative
If you weren’t a blogger, what would you be doing? If I wasn’t a blogger I would probably be behind the camera working as a photographer (I still feel more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it, but I am definitely improving!). I could also see myself working for a fashion retailer on content creation. I would still be working somewhere that combines my love for style and creativity with my passion for marketing and writing.
What inspired your blog? Besides being in love with fashion since I could walk, I originally started my blog as a creative outlet. Working 9-5 takes up a lot of my time and I needed something to call my own. I wanted a place where I would have 100% creative freedom to create the type of content I loved with no direction except my own.
What is your favorite social media platform and why? Instagram, hands down. Instagram has formed an incredible community of supportive fashion and lifestyle bloggers. My other favorite platform is BlogLovin’ because it drives a lot of traffic and engagement to my site. Both of these platforms are exactly where the fashionistas I write to live.
What do you think it is about your blog that keeps people coming back for more? I’d like to think that people continue to come back to my blog because my life and style are relatable. I stay true to myself and have realistic shopping budgets that won’t break the bank. I hope that people are also inspired by the imagery and content that is created and distribute on But What Should I Wear.
What do you love most about blogging? I love the freedom and ability to be creative. You can go with your gut and follow your own creative inspiration. There is no right or wrong way to do a fashion blog, so the freedom to express my style, my brand, and myself in the exact way I want to is exciting.
I also love the blogging community. I have never been a part of a more encouraging group of people in my life. Plus, the opportunities to network and collaborate are endless!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Hmm… Well, I would like to see my fashion blog turn into a brand and platform that helps women express themselves through fashion. I hope to have a few more stamps on my passport too!
What are 3 things you can’t live without? My dog, mascara, and my bed!
If you could spend an entire day with one person, who would it be and what would you do? Well, do they have to be alive? Because if not, I would say my Grandfather. He was a gentle, loving man who worked hard to provide for his family. I would love to spend the day with him just laughing and getting to know him more. Probably somewhere walking on the beach with a glass of red wine in hand.
