Today we’re introducing you to Bianca Coletti, the beautiful mind behind Bianca Coletti Swim! Her love of the beach, travel and a wanderlust spirit influence her original designs that have been featured in Sports Illustrated, Elle and more. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Bianca was constantly surrounded by the ocean, which inspired her to create the Miami-based swim collection. Be sure to keep up with this beachy boss lady on Instagram and shop her swim line here!
Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started? My background is I was born in Puerto Rico from Argentina & Italian parents. We traveled a lot as children and as my father was an architect & artist we were around a big art influence and culture- that helped developed my skills as an artist, designer and photographer.
For college I decide to attend Miami art/ fashion school. Here is where my vision and dream started- started making bikinis for friends, shoots and myself, soon local stores started ordering. The line has been around for almost 20 years, making my brand well know & well received in Miami.
What is your best piece of advice on the first step inspiring fashion designers/bloggers should take? It’s all about discovering your style. Each of us have tendencies we gravitate towards and of course, contemporary trends- but I find it refreshing when you can pull a look where people are like “that’s so you” so you are setting yourself apart in a unique way. I am a beach boho girl but with a preppy side. My designs reflect my personal style. For example our sailor stripes but in a style with a ruffle.
What are 3 things you can’t live without? Beach. Water. Bikinis.
What do you think it is about your line that makes it stand out among other swimwear lines? Our style is very classic + simple. Fit is perfect. Prints are playful + youthful. Our swim line carries our wanderlust spirit.
Do you have a quote or mantra you live by – if so what is it? My mantra is always staying positive! Here you find the answers and solutions.
What is your biggest and/or most important fashion/business tip? One of the most important things we have is our reputation. Always be kind! Treating others fairly and supporting our local community.
Which do you prefer Instagram stories or Snapchat? Why? I am into Insta. The stories pull back to our posts and our vision. Here you can get a behind the scenes glimpse of the brand and inspiration.
What inspired you to create your own swim line? I started right of college as back then you could not buy “separates” so I started making my own! Once we used them on shoots and to the beach, the line took off. We still offer custom order and are cutting and sewing each piece by hand, marking craftsmanship and quality. Our product is manufactured locally.
What is your dream brand that you would love to work with? I am pretty obsessed with Bikini A Day girls, life-style, and vision. I am happy to say Natasha Oakley has worn my swim suits and they have featured the brand. We work together during swim week in Miami Beach.
What do you have planned for your next adventure? We are planning to shoot our 2018 campaign in Ibiza, Spain sometime in the summer time.
