Can you tell us a bit about you and your background? I was born and raised in Orinda, California, then went to the University of North Carolina where I majored in Journalism and Advertising. It was in college that I had the incredible opportunity to sail the world on Semester at Sea, a study abroad program where we circumnavigated the globe, visiting 12 countries in just 4 months… and that’s when I started my first blog!
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself? Energetic, optimistic, and ambitious.
What Profession other than yours would you love to attempt? If I had gone a different direction, I would have been a broadcast journalist. But the idea of working in tiny markets in the middle of nowhere for years while working my way up the broadcast ladder did not appeal to me at all — I knew I was meant to get out and see the world. That being said, it would be a dream to go back to the broadcast route and have a travel TV show one day.
What inspired your blog? All of my friends!!! Everyone was always asking me for travel tips and itineraries, since they knew I loved to travel and that I had been a lot of places. I figured it would be awesome to have a place to point people where I could talk about all my favorite places and help inspire their own itineraries.
What is your favorite social media platform and why? Instagram. I love being able to show people places they’ve never heard of or even thought to go to and I loooove when my followers end up going to a destination, restaurant, or hotel simply because they saw it on my Instagram.
What do you think it is about your blog that keeps people coming back for more? I think travel is something that people never get tired of! Once you get bit by the travel bug, you can’t help it, you’re always on the hunt for that new destination. My blog caters to an experience-loving millennial demographic. Millennials, more than any generation before them, are putting a priority on travel. And they are saving their hard-earned money and PTO to spend on travel, so they want to do it right. They come to Jetset Christina for ideas on how to truly live up their vacation to the fullest.
What do you love most about blogging? I love getting to show people parts of the world they’ve never seen, and I love seeing people’s own experiences in the places I inspired them to go! What I love about travel is that you can never have the same experience as someone else, and you could visit the same place yourself and have a completely different vacation each time. There’s something beautiful, fleeting, and completely unpredictable about all the little moments in travel that go into shaping our experience. It’s never what you expect it to be, and it’s never the same experience twice.
I grew up near Napa Valley, so I like to think of travel like wine that way. Everyone’s taste buds are different, and the nuances that go into how you experience each sip of wine, or each moment of a vacation, are yours alone. You can sip two glasses of the same exact wine years apart and it will be a completely different wine. Maybe it’s just as good, just different, or maybe it’s gotten even better with time. Wine is ever-evolving, just like the world! And, like the world, there are millions and millions of wines, some you’ve never heard of, some you can’t get to, and some that haven’t even been discovered yet. You’ll never be able to say “I’ve had every wine in the world”, just like nobody can say they’ve seen every place in the world. And I love that.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I see myself living somewhere sunny with a big family and always planning our next vacation. I hope I’ve checked off a lot of my bucket list, and that the blog continues to grow and evolve, inspiring more and more people to discover more of the world and to live life the very fullest.
What are 3 things you can’t live without? My friends and family, the ocean, and avocado.
If you could spend an entire day with one person, who would it be and what would you do? Oh man- that’s way too hard! I don’t play by the rules. I’m taking three days 😉
Day 1 would be with my best friend Roxanne. Our perfect day would involve talking until we lose our voices and laughing until our stomachs hurt on a beach somewhere in Mexico… complete with all the Mexican food we could possibly eat, surfing, seeing dolphins, and sailing into a killer sunset.
Day 2 I’d fly somewhere incredibly luxe with my mom, like Bora Bora or St. Bart’s. We’d sun all day, go on a beautiful coastal hike, have spa treatments, and watch the sun set while sipping on duMol chardonnay. We’d most definitely fall asleep by 9.
Day 3 would be with my boyfriend, Kenny. We’d wake up on an exotic tropical island, walk the beach, snorkel with sea turtles, have a beautiful brunch by the ocean, drink way too many margaritas, and end up at a Jimmy Buffett/Shaggy concert.
