Plus she loves a good Moscow Mule, which happens to be one of favorite office drinks! Read more about Amber here.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
I am an HR Business Partner by day and blogger by night. I live in San Diego and just bought my first house! I started King & Kind as a creative outlet where I can share beauty tips, outfits, and my favorite things with readers.
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?
Quite, inspired, and impatient. I am a great listener, am always inspired by people, images, and places, and I am so impatient, I have to open a package the minute I get it even if I know what’s inside already, I know, it’s bad.
What Profession other than yours would you love to attempt?
Graphic design or dermatology
What is your favorite quote?
You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” Oscar Wilde
What inspired your blog?
Other blogs like Pink Peonies and Cupcakes and Cashmere. I enjoyed reading them so much that I decided it would be cool to start one on my own.
What is your favorite social media platform and why?
Instagram because I love to look at what other people are up to and also love that you get to show your life in such a beautiful way. I am constantly inspired by Instagram.
Where do you find inspiration for blog posts?
Other than Instagram and Pinterest, just living life. I will be picking out outfits for the weekend and decide to shoot one or will try a new product and love it so much that I want to share that with readers. I also try to share things that I have researched or looked for the best of so that, hopefully, others don’t have to go through so much work themselves. For example, choosing the best curling iron. I researched, I found it, and I shared it with my readers. Sharing new discoveries and ideas is so fun.
What do you think it is about your blog that keeps people coming back for more?
I am a normal, working woman, who is living a normal life. I’m not a model, I’m not jet-setting all over the world, and I don’t have a staff of people creating blog posts for me. It’s just me, my style, my makeup, and my ideas. If I can do it, you can do it. If I loved a product, you will most likely love it too
How does a brand get your attention for a feature?
I prefer working with brands who approach me with knowledge of King & Kind. It’s nice when they have actually studied my blog and know that we will be a good fit. I have gotten some weird pitches for things that have nothing to do with my style and those get a polite decline from me.
What do you love most about blogging?
Creating something beautiful from nothing. I do the styling, photography, editing, writing, and arranging on my own with the occasional help from my husband with outfit photos. It makes me proud to create a blog post from scratch to share with readers that I think they will really enjoy and I enjoy the creative process the most.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I will hopefully have a couple of kids, a fully remodeled and decorated home, and still have the time to share it all on King & Kind. I always wonder if we will see a bunch of 35-45 year old bloggers in a decade and how that will shift the industry.
In your opinion, what separates a great blog from an unsuccessful blog?
A great blog MUST be aesthetically pleasing and have great content. I want a blog to tell me something I don’t know and inspire me with beautiful images. It is painful to see really bad photography and poor grammar on a blog.
