The creativity bug must be in the air because lately, social media platforms have been delighting us with magical new features that are doing us wonders. A couple of weeks ago, we wrote about Instagram’s newest launch of the video post view count feature. Missed it? No fear, you can read about it here. Facebook added more reactions beyond the ‘like’. Twitter shared a new timeline feature that allowed users to sort their tweets based on relevancy, rather than chronology. You can read more about that here.
And now, we have Snapchat, debuting their newest feature—the personalized on-demand geofilter. Undeniably, one of Snapchat’s best features is the geofilter, which unlocks according to which city you’re in. Previously, this location-based filter was preset and uncustomizable. The new geofilter allows ALL users to design their own geofilter for a specific time and location making it extremely ideal for weddings, events, parties, milestones, businesses, etc.
Now here’s how it works: The geofilter’s do need to meet the Snapchat’s guidelines. You can upload it online and select the time and “geofence” (either the venue or location radius you’d like to cover). Snapchat approval will take up to one business day and the fee (starting at $5) will depend on the duration (30 days max) and location range (from 20,000 to 5,000,000 square feet).
Are you getting the importance of this new feature yet? To see its full potential, check out the video below to get an idea of how disruptive it could be: https://www.youtube.com/embed/t74dCMNSHts
