Aspiring Women Who Inspire: Britt Theodora

In our second installment of Aspiring Women Who Inspire, we are excited and honored to feature Britt Theodora, a celebrity fashion stylist based in New York City. Born and raised in Southern California, Britt got her start assisting celebrity stylist Micaela Erlanger in 2015 dressing Oscar winning and nominated actors. Since then, she has worked with talent and influencers including Bambi Northwood Blyth, Barbara Palvin, Sherrie Silver, Hart Denton, Perry Mattfeld and Kat McNamara. Britt specializes in dressing up-and-coming talent while creating relationships with both emerging and high-fashion designers. Without further adieu, here’s Britt and her story.

Introduce yourself.

Hi! I am Britt Theodora and I am a fashion stylist based in NYC!

How did you get into styling and what’s been your strategy for building a name for yourself in such a competitive industry?

Well it all started when I was 13 with my Teen Vogue obsession. That turned into a love for fashion journalism which I studied in college and started interning in public relations for companies like Gucci and Lanvin. When I graduated, I landed a job with Micaela Erlanger who took me under her wing for three years! The strategy is always evolving, but the most important goal of mine is maintaining relationships with everyone I work with at all levels.

What’s an accomplishment you consider to be the most significant in your career so far?

The biggest accomplishment has probably been just taking a chance on myself. I was pretty terrified to go freelance on my own, but without taking a huge leap, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

What’s a failure that turned into a blessing?

Being a small business owner comes with lots of moments where you have to pick yourself back up again. I recently invested in a studio space and realized the finances were getting difficult to keep up with.  I then decided to rent out parts of space to other stylists and emerging designers who need a little room to work. It has been such a blessing to create a space where other people can work and fulfill their dreams, too!

Morning routine?

Wake up, make my bed and drink an oat latte.

Who’s an aspiring woman who inspires you?

My mom! She is a badass lawyer who raised three girls and somehow managed to make us a home-cooked meal every night!

What’s one piece of career advice you’d give a young person looking to follow in your footsteps?

Be the first to arrive and the last one to leave. My dad taught me this work ethic when I got my first job in a mailroom at 16. This tactic allowed me to always go above and beyond during any job or internship I ever had. This always went noticed by former employers which turned our working relationship into mentorships.

When you’re not killin’ it as a celeb stylist, what can we find you doing?

I am obsessed with home decor. When I am not styling, I am probably repainting my living room or on Pinterest getting inspiration for my next home project.
