Network Your Way to the Top

Let’s face it, getting a job nowadays is a lot harder than it use to be. Having a college degree sometimes just is not enough to land you a job. Now, it’s all about who you know. Connecting with others and networking can lead to an endless amount of opportunities. Here at BLND, we’ve put together a guide on how to network for success!

  1. Research and be prepared
Make a list of questions and topics you would like to discuss with your potential connection. Also, give them a quick Google search to become familiar with them. What have they said in past interviews? Being ready and prepared demonstrates a ready to work, strong and responsible work ethic.
  2. Be personal
With the wide use of social media, it can make sense to send a tweet to get in contact with a professional. However, chances are, multiple people have done the same thing. Being personal and reaching out via phone or e-mail can set you apart from the others. Also, this looks more professional which can play in your favor.
  3. You are important too!
Networking is a valuable tool. Let others know you have something to offer them as well! Ask yourself, how can you be a valuable contact? If they have helped you out, reciprocate the act and ask them if there is anything you can do for them.
  4. Keep in contact
There’s nothing worse than the feeling being used. Don’t ditch your network just because they helped you out. Keep in contact with them from time to time. Make them remember you because they could possibly help you out again in the future.
