Style Cusp

Every Monday we bring you a feature on a talented blogger who inspires us. This week we are happy to feature Marissa Meade from the fashion blog Style Cusp. This East Coast girl caught our eye with her flawless and classic style and looks and we just can’t get enough! Read more about Marissa here.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

My name is Marissa and I write Style Cusp, a fashionable lifestyle blog focusing on style, beauty, and shopping. I started the blog in college completely as a creative outlet, never thinking it would become my full time job! I worked in retail, retail management, event planning, Marketing/PR, and a handful of other fields while building the blog.background-Recovered

What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?

Structured, Consistent, Driven

What Profession other than yours would you love to attempt?

Honestly, none! As the blog started to grow, I knew I wanted to pursue it professionally, taking it to the next level and have it be my job. I wouldn’t want to wake up everyday doing anything other than what I love. For right now, this is it!

What is your favorite quote?

Oh gosh – I have so many! One of my current favorites is “In between goals is a thing called life, that has to be lived and enjoyed. (Sid Caesar)” This year I’m trying to be more balanced with my work + life. Since I work from home, its’ easy to be working all the time, and making a clear distinction and unplugging is necessary.

What inspired your blog?

I always wanted to have a blog, more so just to write and share my thoughts. A college girlfriend of mine in a textiles class had just started one and she encouraged me to do the same – the rest is history!

What is your favorite social media platform and why?

Definitely Instagram, and not only because it’s the fastest  growing right now. I see it as an extension of my blog, where I  can share more personal things that don’t make it into styled  outfits and shoots.

Where do you find inspiration for blog posts?

Pinterest, Other blogs, and honestly in my closet. Some days I  take a few hours and just try on different outfit combinations – it  keeps me creative with my own outfits.

What do you think it is about your blog that keeps  people coming back for more?

My style is classic and timeless, I always reach for pieces that are simple and can be worn season after season – with a few trend items mixed in, whether it’s with color or texture. I think people can identify with a style that is consistent.

How does a brand get your attention for a feature?

Typically through email.

What do you love most about blogging?

The opportunities I’ve had, the brands I’ve worked with, the people I’ve met, and friends I have made. I’ve been fortunate to work with some of my favorite brands (like Nordstrom), attend fashion weeks, launch events, and more, meet style and celebrity icons like Rachel Zoe and Carrie Underwood, and form relationships with girls I have met along the way. My networking circle is constantly expanding and growing.Gray-Coat-Camel-Sweater--600x578

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Doing something I love – I don’t know how this blog will continue to grow or where it will take me, but wherever I am in 10 years, I know it will have played a huge part in getting me there.

In your opinion, what separates a great blog from an unsuccessful blog?

Consistent content, great photography, a unique POV, and the ability to connect with your readers. I don’t have the largest audience ever, but I have a very dedicated audience that is engaged with my content consistently – that, to me, is more valuable.
