Every Monday we bring you a feature on a talented blogger who inspires us. This week we are happy to share with you, the beautiful and unique Kailey of Mermaidens. She’s a fashion lover with a ‘penchant for pastels’ – and inspires us to dance to the beat of our own drum and see the fun in the world. She’s been featured on Refinery29, in the ModCloth Blog and has been interviewed and quoted in countless adorable other online fashion blogs. Read more about her here.
I’m Kailey, a 20 year old clothing enthusiast with a penchant for pastels. I was born to an artist and teacher, and they instilled a deep love for art in me!
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?
Hopeful, Resilient, Excited
What Profession other than yours would you love to attempt?
Working at a print publication would really be a dream come true! Growing up, I would count down the days until I would get a new issue of magazines like Elle Girl and Teen Vogue, and then memorize each page!
What is your favorite quote?
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” – Maya Angelou
What inspired your blog?
I was going through a difficult time and decided I needed a positive outlet for my creative endeavors – and this was all made crystal clear to me when I found style blogs after googling sewing projects!
I’m really in love with Instagram – it has inspired me to push myself to create new content moreso then any other platform! I could scroll through my main dashboard feed forever – I really love the painstakingly staged photos of things lined up neatly as much as the impromptu, excited selfies people take with their friends on nights out.
Where do you find inspiration for blog posts?
Usually it’s just my drive to share and connect with like minded individuals that drives me to post new content – but if it’s a specific theme, I am inspired by scrolling through tumblr, reading other blogs/magazines, and watching movies!
What do you think it is about your blog that keeps people coming back for more?
Oh gosh, such a hard question! It still blows my mind people read my blog at all, honestly! All I can do is hope that the reason people like it is because they can tell how much love and time I put into it, and how much I genuinely appreciate their feedback!
How does a brand get your attention for a feature?
When it’s a brand with pieces I truly love and resinates with me, my first instinct is to share the love!
Meeting some of the most influential, talented people through my blog – I feel so so thankful that I get to call them my friends! They have inspired me to keep going, learn to love myself, and much more.
I also occasionally get emails from people telling me I have inspired them to be more confident in what they wear – and that’s one of the best compliments anybody could ever give me! I’m a pretty shy person, and for a long time I was afraid of the idea of calling attention to myself because of wearing something a little different. But over the past couple years, I’ve been learning how to be braver and draw confidence from what I wear – and the idea of influencing others to find that confidence is just amazing to me!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I would really love to be in a position where I can offer my family financial stability.
In your opinion, what separates a great blog from an unsuccessful blog?
What draws me personally to a blog, is when the person seems really genuine and updates frequently!
