Featured Blogger: Mrs. Lilien

Every Monday we bring you a blogger feature on a talented individual who inspires us. This week we are featuring the fabulous Mrs. Lilien. As one of our favorite bloggers for inspiration, we were very excited she was interested in having us interview her, and was so incredibly kind and friendly! Her vintage style, graphic design background and tell tale brand keep us coming back for more week after week.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?mrslilien

I’ve been a graphic designer for nearly 10 years and founded the Mrs. Lilien blog in 2009. I have published two cocktail swatchbooks, the most recent just this May. The first book showcases a modern twist on every classic recipe and the second, a bountiful variety of dessert cocktails paired with the most fabulous of accouterments.

What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?

Passionate, colorful, witty

What Profession other than yours would you love to attempt?

would love to be a hairdresser. I’ve always loved to do it and think I would totally rock it.

What is your favorite quote?

“Too much of a good thing is wonderful.” –Liberace

What inspired your blog?

It’s really just a daily outlet for the inner-workings of the explosive insanity that goes on in the space between my ears and my brain.

What is your favorite social media platform and why?

Pinterest – it’s the art of visual hoarding. I could spend all day and night scrolling without a trace of boredom (or guilt). It’s also our most rapid-growing social outlet over at the Mrs. Lilien Headquarters.

Inspiration is pulled from every place imaginable. There’s never just ONE place with all the answers. If I see a really great color palette, my mind will go crazy and start putting things together itself, I’ve just got to match the findings with tangible ideas and findings.

What do you think it is about your blog that keeps people coming back for more?

It’s different and definitely not for everybody. Many people find offensive what I find humorous, but for those who fit the mold I think I reel ‘em in with rich rhymes and witty sensibilities. I have a natural ability to consistently source the most elusive of ladylike pleasures, which is what much of my content is based on.

How does a brand get your attention for a feature?

It needs to happen organically. It needs to be something I really love and doesn’t always need to be a luxury. It can be something simple, pragmatic and mundane. When there is an interest in collaboration, a brand that has done their homework, sees a parallel between their own brand and mine and doesn’t assume my first name is Lilien (this happens more often than you’d think), my attention is immediately stolen.

What do you love most about blogging?

I think I would go absolutely insane if I didn’t have a method to channel this mind of mine that never stops. It’s the vehicle that drives me to sanity and the means behind supporting my family, which is the ultimate plus.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?static.squarespace

Sitting on a topless beach at a locale that is overly exotic and even more expensive with a colorful cocktail in hand, enjoying my leisurely lifestyle.

In your opinion, what separates a great blog from an unsuccessful blog?

Staying true to yourself and not allowing others’ content or opinions sway your decisions is the ultimate testament. I’m so bad – you would think I’d visit other blogs on the daily, but I just don’t. It doesn’t really even cross my mind. I think it’s great to look up to people in your field and draw inspiration but pulling ideas from other blogs is just not my method.
