Tips to Improve Your Business’s SEO

search engine optimization

Ah, Google. Practically all of the world’s information can be found with a magical Google search. But as a business owner, you may be wondering: why isn’t your business coming up on the first page?

The answer? SEO.

Search engine optimization, or SEO, is the way that you can make your brand visible online. If you don’t know about SEO, you might assume that Google just spits out results in random order. However, search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing use algorithms to determine the order of search results based on relevancy to key search terms.

While your business can’t hack the algorithm, you can make some changes to your website to watch your website rise the ranks to the top of search engine results. Here are our top three tips that will help you improve your SEO.

Tip #1: Blogging

Most search engine algorithms operate primarily by searching the web for keywords. The more keywords a website has relating to a users search, the higher ranked on the page it will be. By posting blogs that are consistent with your brand regularly, you will be constantly feeding more and more keywords relevant to your industry online, boosting your SEO. To maximize the effectiveness of a blogging strategy:

  • Choose a handful of keywords, about 3-5, that your blogs will focus on
  • Include these keywords 2-3 times in each blog
  • Post consistently and on a schedule

Tip #2: Internal/External Links

Another way to boost search engine optimization is by using internal and external links. Create relevant links within the content of your pages, and make them descriptive links within keywords to maximize efficiency. You want to include both internal links, meaning linking to another page on your website, and external links, meaning linking to another website entirely. That way, you are diversifying your SEO tactics and showing that your website is active in engaging online.

Tip #3: Image Optimization

If your site includes images (which it should), optimizing the images for SEO purposes is a quick way to boost your ranking. Image file format and sizing should be easily loadable, meaning they are not too big and not too high quality. Additionally, use your keywords in your image file names, alt tags, titles, descriptions and captions to maximize keyword relevancy.
